Who are you? A child of the Most High, God.

May I ask you a question?  “Who are you?”  If you’re around my age when someone asks that question you may think of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend of the rock band, “The Who.”  That’s the song title of a little number that sold 1 million copies in a month late in the summer of 1978.  While simplistic at best, the song has that catchy verse with an echo… Who are you…ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh. 

But at it’s core, it’s a great question that every single person wrestles with.  Who am I?  I’m a husband.  A dad.  A son.  A pastor.  Okay…. Those are great labels, but who am I really… deep down at my core?

I am a child of the most high, God.  Created in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made.  And I have an incredible inheritance because I belong to God.  And so do you! 

Listen to what John writes in the first chapter of his gospel:

John 1:9-12: “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.  He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.  He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

The Message translation: 

But whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed

      and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves,

      their child-of-God selves.

Your “true self”… who you are deep down at your core, is a child of the Creator… God.  Wow!  Can we get excited about that?  Can we go to the Creator, our Father, and get wise counsel, love, provision, strength, care?  Absolutely!

Your Father in Heaven wants to bless you… in fact, He IS blessing you.  He longs to give you everything you need for day to day living.   How do I know this?  One more scripture… From Luke 11, beginning with verse 9:

“Here’s what I’m saying:

   Ask and you’ll get;

   Seek and you’ll find;

   Knock and the door will open.

“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing—you’re at least decent to your own children. And don’t you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask him?” (The Message)

Ask Him for what you need today.  He loves you and He delights in you as His child.
