Psalm 143

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 143:

God. Abba. Father.

Hear our prayer. You are faithful and true. We trust you. We know you will come to our aid. We ask for your wisdom today. We know we are sinners. We all are. There is only one who is perfect. And through the grace of Jesus, we know we have mercy.

Some days we don’t have a clue. We are in darkness. Nothing we do is right. There are people and spiritual forces all around us that want to harm us, that want to defeat us. Our hearts are heavy. We are crushed. We are weary. We can’t do enough to climb out of this pit.

And then, we remember your faithfulness. You have always been unswerving, Lord. Thank you! We stretch out our hands lifting them high above our heads, palms up to receive from you, just a like a small flower growing from a rocky crag in the desert. We plead: “Come Holy Spirit, fill our thirsty souls!”

As this new day dawns, we desire you more than anything. The sky is filled with streaks of orange and blue and white. We are thankful for fresh starts. We know you will teach us today. You will wrap your arm around our shoulders and show us the way to go. You do this every single day because you love us. You are our God. Your gentle Spirit leads us in the way we are to go.

We are your servants. Protect us from evil. We love you.

We thank you for Jesus.

Psalm 119-9 (Tet, “basket”)

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-9 (Tet, “basket”), verses 65-72:

God. Abba. Father.

Our hearts overflow with gratitude! We open our hands and our minds and seek your wisdom. Teach us your ways, oh great King. Be kind and gracious to us. We trust your word.

Today we thank you for discipline. When we go off the path that you have chosen for us, you guide us back with your faithful love and grace. You are good and what you do is good. Even when those who do not follow your ways speak untruths, we will warmly embrace your word. We will not follow them, but we will follow you. Your law and your grace are our delight!

When we find ourselves in trouble, we know that you will cause all things to work together for our good. Because we love you and you love us. We are your children. You are our Father. Your words are more valuable to us than wealth or great riches.

Your Word is Jesus. Your Word is our life!

Through Jesus we thank you.

Amen.

Psalm 119-8, (Chet, “wall”)

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-8 (Chet, “wall”), verses 57-64:

God. Abba. Father.

Thank you for walls, Lord. Ones that surround us and protect us and keep the enemy from getting to us or prevent us from places we need not go. You are good to us in that way. Thank you!

Our hearts’ desire is to obey your word – every minute of every day. Forgive us when we put our desires ahead of your plans. Sometimes we get distracted and knocked off the path. Sometimes those distractors surround us. Yet, you give us the strength to stand, to break down walls that are meant to harm us, and follow you once again. Thank you for heaven-gifted breakthroughs!

The earth is filled with your love! Thank you for friends who love you. Give us allies who will encourage us and speak your truths to us. And allow us to be the same for our companions. Teach us how to follow your ways.

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-7 (Zayin, “tool”), verses 49-56:

God. Abba. Father.

Thank you for your word. Like a trowel, may you plant your word deep in our hearts. Thank you for your promises of truth and life. We cling to your word every day for it brings us hope. Your promises keep us steady when the storms prevail. Yes, we are energized by your word!

Others may turn their backs to you, but we will press on. Others may mock our devotion to you, but our adventures with you affirm your love for us. Your precepts keep us on the right track. Your unending compassion guides us and keeps us safe.

We sing of your faithfulness day and night. For you are good to us. We are comforted by the peace of your word.

Jesus in the Word.

And it is in His name we pray.

Psalm 119-6 (Vav, “connect”)

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-6, verses 41-48:

God. Abba. Father.

Thank you for connections, those dear friends, people, places, and things that tie us together. We need connections.  They keep us safe and secure. Thank you for your Word which is a bridge between your heart and ours. Thank you for your unfailing love and your promises to us. We trust in you and we trust you, Lord.

Our hope is in you. When we feel defeated, we remember your word, your truth, which brings us freedom!

So, we will praise your name today! We sing aloud of the greatness of who you are and what you have done for us! You have bridged the gap between our hearts and yours via the nails which held the Messiah to the tree.

Thank you!

Psalm 119-5 (Hey)

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-5 (Hey), verses 33-40:

God. Abba. Father.

We lift up our hands in praise to you today! You are Yahweh, the LORD, the One True God.

Teach us. May your word be the first place we turn when we need advice and counsel on how to live in this world. Give us what we need to follow your ways — they are just and true.

May we understand your guidance, as well, making it simpler to obey your word. We know that we find joy in walking the path of right, for it is good. Give us a hunger for wisdom and to devour your word. Forgive us for valuing our things, our possessions, our stuff. They are worthless and will pass away. But your word lives forever. It is the most valuable treasure we can have.

Thank you for keeping your promises to us. They are our blessing. They are our very life!

We glorify your name today, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and Holy Spirit our comforter.

Amen!

Psalm 119-4 (Dalet)

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 119-4 (Dalet), verses 25-32:

God. Abba. Father.

Some days we are weary. Every door we try to go through is closed. Remind us that you allow us entrance and you prevent us entrance for our good. Help us to understand your ways. Give us your wisdom. Teach us your word. Let us ponder your miracles.

Give us strength, Lord. Breathe new life into our fatigued body and soul. As you guide, throw up barricades that lead nowhere and give us clarity in vision and purpose. Help us to stay on target to your truth, your ways, your life.

When we are confused, you give us understanding. Thank you! We commit to running this race with perseverance and diligence, learning the things you want from us, and for us. We trust you and know that you will never let us down.

We praise you! We love you.

We thank you for Jesus, in whose name we pray.

Psalm 116

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 116:

God. Abba. Father.

Today we proclaim the love we have for you because you turned your ear to us. You heard our prayers. Thank you for the assurance that you, the God of the universe, care so deeply for us that you listen to all of us when we pray.

Even when we were near death, when pain emanated from our hearts, we cried out to you, earnestly seeking relief from the anguish. You are so gracious, so compassionate, so kind. You make all things right, Abba. You saved us when we were completely helpless. We need not worry, ever. For you have shown us your great grace time and time again. Thank you.

Deep in our spirits we can rest. Our eyes are freed from tears. You have kept our feet from stumbling. We can walk in the land of the living. You are so good to us, God. We trust you. Even if we can’t trust another human soul, we can always trust you.

How do we repay you for all your many blessings? We can’t. We will praise you. We will give offerings to you because you have saved us. We will obey you and do all we can to keep our promises to you.

Thank you for welcoming those who pass from this life into your eternal kingdom. To you, the death of one of your chosen ones is beautiful. And indeed it is, for we too will be greeted with care when it is our time.

We worship you as a part of a legacy of faith. We thank you for freeing us from the chains of death and sin through the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and humbled by your compassion and grace. When your people gather, we will offer praise!

Psalm 115

Here is today’s prayer from Psalm 115:

God. Abba. Father.

Let those with breath sing praises to God! We are not deserving of any praise. Only you, oh great King. You alone deserve all honor. Why only you? Because you alone are the One True God. You are alive and you rule and reign from heaven! Continue to show us your glory.

The gods of this earth have no breath. They are dead. They have no value. Forgive us when we create idols and worship anything other than you. When we treasure our possessions, or institutions, or even other people above you, forgive us. Bring us back to that sweet place of having no other gods before you.

Give us the courage to trust only in you. When our backs are up against the wall, we will trust in you. When we find ourselves in situations that appear impossible, we will trust in you. When our hearts race in fear or anxiety, we will trust in you. You are the LORD, Yahweh, maker of heaven and earth. You will protect us. You will help us. Always.

Thank you.

We open our hands and our hearts today to receive a blessing from you, the One True God. You will bless our families, today and in the generations yet to come. You will bless those who worship you.

You will bless Israel. Bring peace to The Land. Bring peace to our country as well.

Let everyone shout praises to the LORD! Hallelujah!

Psalm 86:

Please listen, Lord, and answer my prayer! I am poor and helpless. Protect me and save me because you are my God. I am your faithful servant, and I trust you. Be kind to me! I pray to you all day. Make my heart glad! I serve you, and my prayer is sincere. You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you. Please listen, Lord! Answer my prayer for help. When I am in trouble, I pray, knowing you will listen.

No other gods are like you; only you work miracles. You created each nation, and they will all bow down to worship and honor you. You perform great wonders because you alone are God.

Teach me to follow you, and I will obey your truth. Always keep me faithful. With all my heart I thank you. I praise you, Lord God. Your love for me is so great that you protected me from death and the grave.

Proud and violent enemies, who don’t care about you, have ganged up to attack and kill me. But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don’t easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.  I serve you, Lord, and I am the child of one of your servants. Look on me with kindness. Make me strong and save me.  Show that you approve of me! Then my hateful enemies will feel like fools, because you have helped and comforted me.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

Here is today’s prayer:

God. Abba. Father.

We thank you today for the many truths proclaimed by the psalmist. You are the great I Am, the King above all kings. We give our lives to you. We trust you. Hear our prayer. Have mercy. Give us your joy.

Thank you for being so good to us. Your love and grace are always available to those who call to you. Yes, anytime we are anxious, or in trouble or distress, every time we pray, you answer. We place our confidence and hope and trust in you alone.

Why? Because there is none like you! No other god listens. No other god answers. No other god compares with you nor performs the miracles you do. We worship you, oh great King!

Teach us your ways. Give us the courage and discipline to follow as you lead. We desire that you be first in our heart. Always.

Thank you for watching over us and protecting us. You have saved us. You are tender and kind. Indeed, you are slow to anger, patient and compassionate towards us. You only have our best in mind. Give us the strength we need for today. Thank you for caring for us. You are our Father.

Show us your great love today. May those all around us see first-hand that you love us. May they be also be encouraged today. Thank you for always comforting us with your grace and giving us your peace.
